Work by alumnus Li Hongwei, MFA ’07 on view at Shanghai’s Long Museum
Artwork by Alfred University alumnus Li Hongwei, MFA ’07, is featured in a current exhibition at Long Museum in Shanghai, China.
“Becoming Harmonious: The Art of Li Hongwei,” Li’s first solo exhibition in a museum in China, opened Nov. 10, 2022, and will remain on view through Feb. 19, 2023.
Curated by Wang Wei, director of Long Museum, the exhibition includes more than 20 pieces of Li’s sculpture and installation works. They include his earlier work, “Allegory of Balance” series; the installation, “Rebirth in Breakage”; and the continuous “Xuan” series and the “Upwelling of Gravity” series. In addition, Li displays his latest work “Beyond the Height”, “Futurism” and “The Origin” series.
Li earned an M.F.A. degree in ceramic art from Alfred University in 2007 and holds a B.F.A. degree in sculpture (2005) from the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing, China. He is recognized as one of China’s most accomplished and innovative ceramic artists, whose work has been shown in international exhibitions in China, Europe and the United States and is currently represented in several American museums.
